About the role
Our platform runs on multiple Kubernetes clusters: on-prem at the customer site, in the cloud, and on edge gateways right on the production floor. Some of them in environments that don't tolerate outages — plants running 24/7. Your job is to keep these systems running reliably and let the team deploy faster without breaking things.
Your stack: Kubernetes, Linux, Helm, common cloud platforms, CI/CD and GitOps over GitLab. Observability runs on Prometheus and Grafana. Security and network design are part of the job — we build for environments where cybersecurity isn't just a checkbox.
We work in a small, tightly coordinated team. Code reviews and pair programming are a fixed part of the week. Every Friday we share interesting finds from the web and new tools in our show-and-tell sessions. As Cloud & DevOps Engineer you are not part of a pure ops team — you work daily with the backend, frontend, and data science teams and ensure the availability of the platform.
What are your responsibilities?
- You operate and scale our Kubernetes clusters — on-prem, in the cloud, and at the edge — with an eye on availability, efficiency, and performance.
- You build and maintain our CI/CD pipelines with GitOps: linting, tests, builds, rollouts across staging and production.
- You secure our infrastructure — network segmentation, access control, secrets management — and make security the default.
- You develop and maintain Kubernetes operators and Helm charts together with the backend team.
- You automate where the friction is: manual steps, repetitive alerts, config drift between environments.
- You back up the backend, frontend, and data science teams on deployments and Kubernetes debugging.
What is your qualification?
- At least three years of hands-on Kubernetes experience, ideally across mixed on-prem and cloud environments.
- Comfortable with Linux, shell scripting, and infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, GitOps, Helm, or equivalent).
- Hands-on with CI/CD pipelines — you know why a step is flaky and fix the cause, not the symptom.
- Sense for security: networking, TLS, RBAC, secrets, hardening — without compliance theater.
- Strong English, written and spoken.
- Bonus: experience with edge deployments, industrial networks (OT/IT segregation), or airgap installations.
- Bonus: basic Go — you keep an eye on deployments and tell the backend team where things can be simpler.

- The team decides on architecture, tooling, and test coverage.
- Agentic tooling in daily work: Codex, Claude Code, and new development practices — we try them early and use what works.
- Mostly on-site in Stuttgart, Ulm, or Berlin — Industrial IoT projects for customers worldwide, from mid-market manufacturers to DAX corporations.
